What a route to start the first CCCC Trip, the longest single route in the southwest……. Day one

We met at the Vicarage tea rooms where we started our trip in the best style with a nice cup of tea!!! Myself (James), Phill, Steve and Rich were looking forward to the days adventure.

Between the group the route had been climbed a number of times however climbing it as a team of four (one suffering from vertigo) was going to be a little challenging!

Parking at the Cornakey Farm lane (we spoke to the farmer first!) we had  spectacular weather, a clear cloudless sky.. we set off across the fields. Wreckers is a truly aw-inspiring site as you approach and se the main cliff, nearly 450ft of loose culm slab, nice.

After taking a wrong route on the way down and traversing through waist deep brambles and thorns Steve and Rich were beginning to wish that they had worn trousers and not shorts, ouch! eventually after a couple of small tumbles we go kitted up and descend to the base of the slabs. Steve coming across his first north coast adventure – the descent. After an initial O SH*T at seeing the descent down a steep muddy gully and bit of poly prop for support we were on our way.

kitting up at the bottom Led the way and soon got into the swing of wreckers, first piece of kit at 40ft and the first reliable piece in another 10!! OOPS looserock “below”. setting the first belay up on the small ledge below the overlap fitting four people on the ledge proved interesting and very friendly!!!

Moving off from the cosyness of the first ledge was relief and it was not long before I was setting up on the large grassy ledge of the second belay. The others soon joined and a cup of tea and doughnuts were in order. The final pitch bekoned, climbing with a beutiful sunset as a backdrop. All finished the route with a broad grin and Steve had his north coast cherry popped in style..
